About
In my work as an Instructional Designer I have developed collaborative working relationships with clients. I have found this is the only way to effectively support the educational development of the teaching staff at Carleton. I am regularly tasked with supporting instructors who have unique teaching and learning challenges that require a level of attention, tact and resourcefulness that very few others can provide.
Clients who work with me can expect my support in assessing their needs and recommending evidence-based teaching, assessment and feedback strategies. Once a project plan has been established, I continue to collaborate with my clients in the development phase of their course to write learning outcomes, create templates and prototypes and to structure content in a way that allows students to focus on their learning. When the opportunity arises, I can be relied on to create learning materials using a variety of educational technology tools including Moodle, Mahara, Captivate, Final Cut Pro, Illustrator, Photoshop, Storyline.
In addition, I have hosted workshops on the course design process, the importance of building trust with learners, office hours and have facilitated roundtable discussions with instructors on their work. I have had the opportunity to represent Carleton at conferences related to teaching and learning and performance improvement in the past three years including presentations at Canadian Network for Innovation in Education (CNIE), Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).
